Best of 2019
Here we go! My best of that nobody asked for.
Before I get to my top albums I'm throwing in some bonus catagories that everyone needs to check out.
I will link to the first few. These are bands that deserve your attention. So I'll make it as easy as possible on you. The rest I am sure you know how to find.
Single of the Year
Dispositions - For You
This is a bruising track with tons of emotion. You just may cry while you're headbanging. I am looking forward to hearing what these guys have in store for the future.
Local Album of the Year
Mother Freud - Mother Freud
Go back and read my review of the Bayside tour at Gas Monkey Live. It'll tell you everything you need to know about the band.
I am trying to personally push them over 1000 listens on Spotify. But they deserve hundreds of thousands.
From what I have been able to gather they formed in January and wrote and recorded a record by mid year. But the writing doesn't feel rushed. The songs are well composed and the lyrics are meaningful. If my low level sleuthing is correct this is quite an accomplishment. It takes me days to write 1 blog post. You know. For perspective.
EP of the Year
Vagrants - Separation
This EP is 5 tracks long and packed full of post hardcore goodness.
I don't listen to a ton of hardcore/post hardcore. But when I do find a band I like they are usually on regular rotation, if not one of my favorites. Vagrants is on that level for me.
These guys deserve to be on tours with the big guns in the scene. Give them at least one spin to help get them noticed. I'm ready for them to open for Counterparts and Knocked Loose. I mean!!!! Take my damn money already!
Top Ten Albums of 2019
10. Norma Jean - All Hail
9. Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind
8. Black Sites - Exile
7. Carnifex - World War X
6. Counterparts - Nothing Left To Love
5. Infant Annihilator - The Battle Of Yaldabaoth
4. Amon Amarth - Berserker
3. Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas
2. Elevuitie - Ategnatos
And at number one!
Drum roll.........
It's a tie!!!
1. Shadow Of Intent - Melencholy / Fit For An Autopsy - The Sea Of Tragic Beasts
I really could not in good conscience, pick one over the other. Every time I listen to either I think it's the best of the year. Truthfully two of my favorite albums of all time. Even listing one in front of the other in a tie felt wrong. So I went with the order in which they were released.
Oh look! A conveniently located link to a playlist featuring my top five.... err six...
